Reporting a rape from 2015 with no proof other than word

Does anyone know if there’s a point in reporting a rape from 2015 with no proof other than word of mouth? My rapist now works at a store that I frequent (or used to frequent, now I’m too scared to). I have 0 proof besides my word and possibly the word of a friend he also raped, but she refuses to come forward because she thinks its pointless and will be more traumatizing with no benefit.
I only came to terms with the fact that what happened was rape in 2018, and was told by my teachers that coming forward wouldn’t do anything since it had been so long and I have no proof.
Sorry for the book, I’m still in the stages of a panic attack and am rambling I think.

I’m from British Columbia, Canada

i’m really sorry you’re going through this, but unfortunately as i’m sure you know bringing charges might be extremely stressful and traumatic for you. however BC appears to not have a statute of limitations on sexual assault, so it is an option. i would def consult with a criminal lawyer in your area, maybe see if there’s some kind of community legal aid organization that will do a free consult

I’m sorry this happened!! But unfortunately there’s not much that can be done without proof. You would need to have had a rape kit done or file with the police at the time of when it happened. Otherwise it’s just hear say. If your friend had this done then she could file on him and y’all could together but you would still need evidence.

Even women WITH proof have a difficult time proving rape. You could try, but you’d likely waste money and traumatize yourself further. The best thing to do is get as much counseling as possible. Heal you. And find a different store to frequent. I’m sorry! Good luck!!

If you were both minors, this brings in different laws.

Theres also a statute of limitations so if its more than so long even with proof and them admitting it, they cant get in trouble.

Definitely worth reporting because maybe nothing will come of just one report (but maybe something will) but imagine if there are other reports? Or other victims after you? This is evidence that will be on file.
