It’s so sad that nice people can’t trust others to be nice back. Hope you get all of your generosity back.

I don’t know the estate laws in your jurisdiction but generally or at common law, a potential inheritance is a future possibility, not a vested right, absent trust language to the contrary. As a caregiver, you may have some cause of action in contract law for work you performed (note “may”) but it’s unlikely you could sue to enforce a promise from a sick or dying elderly person. From the information you provided, it also sounds unlikely that she has the capacity to bequeath anything so taking any gift from her may be wrongful, in the sense that she’s an incapacitated elderly woman and you were in a caregiving fiduciary role. All states have statutes protecting vulnerable people, specifically vulnerable elders, from fiduciary abuse.

Do you have a custody order in place? Does it say anything about moving out of state? My order states I have to notify my ex anytime I take my daughter across state lines even though my ex and I don’t live in the same state which is ridiculous. I would also try filing for an emergency custody hearing but I would ask your mother in law for permission to use her house as a permanent residence until you find a place of your own. I cannot see anybody with an ounce of common sense allowing your ex visitation or custody but common sense is severely lacking with some of the magistrates. One final yet very unfair option is asking the ex to allow you to move out of state if you drop child support which is a load of crap but will probably work. You’ll unlikely to ever see a dollar of it anyway.

NAL, I’d go to a hotel for even just a week. You could get a weekly rate. Definitely go to courthouse with your docs and any further proof & get an order of protection!!!!! If not an Order of Protection then get a No Contact Order.

NAL you literally paid him to get married to get ur green card…you didnt get it on ur own getting married set you up for the green card process…thats how it works…my bf and i were approached 100’s of time when we lived somewhere that had an exorbitant of hungarians on work visas with a allowance monthly for the marriage paid to us and then a large cash sum upon permanant green card status. And had to be married a certain amount of years and had to go to ins interviews and live together…which this is illegal…so we passed but it happens all the time.
See lessSo if he told ya the collateral thing he lied to you and actually screwed you and prejudiced himself…because it looks like he got paid to marry you in exchange for a green card.
