]]> I’m renting an apartment in a small college town in college housing (menomonie, wi) & my roommates are complete strangers in their 30’s and 40’s. I expected them to be closer to my age since it is college housing. They are all very nice and I have had no issues with any of them. A little over a month ago, one of their boyfriends moved in & is now sharing a room with the girlfriend. Our landlord doesn’t know. He did sign a lease for next year but he has a very long criminal record and didn’t pass the background check so his lease was terminated.
Meanwhile, he’s still secretly living in my apartment with his girlfriend. I’m 20 & this is my first apartment… I don’t really feel comfortable living with a criminal that’s not even supposed to be living here. He told my landlord that he’s moving out west & that he’s “dying”. He wrote me a passive aggressive note saying he’s a changed person and it’s strange no one else had to have a background check and that the next tenant will be “worse than him”. I’m not quite sure how to get him out of my apartment without causing issues with my roommate or him (his criminal record makes me nervous… he’s got multiple assault charges)
Also:
-his mail is getting delivered to my house
-he doesn’t have a car so he’s constantly using my roommate’s car so she can’t go anywhere
-my landlord can’t “catch him” because he’s always conveniently gone when she comes over
-it’s in our lease that we can’t have guests over for more than 7 consecutive days
-my landlord specifically told him he can’t live here and told the girlfriend to limit his time here because of his record
-I’m worried he’ll try to throw my boyfriend under the bus and try to spin it back on him & say he lives with me too… he has two separate leases to prove he has his own house but he’s just over quite a bit during the day

]]> I live in a small town in West Virginia. We have had nothing but trouble for many many years with our sewer. The house is old and has the open drains in the basement but they still work well. The problem is that the sewer backs up in the city’s line. You can tell when it is on the city when you look down the pipe on the corner of the lot. We are the only home on this line. The problem is that the city’s pipe goes from terra cotta to plastic and back a few more times. They ran a camera down and saw where the pipes don’t line up any more. They have replaced pieces but not the whole thing. I don’t know if the years of sewer in my basement has done some structural damage but each time it happens I have to bleach the whole basement and hose it down with hot water. Should the city be responsible for damages and the years (15+) of stink and mess in my home?

For the last year she’s been makin petty complaints about everyone here, verbally assaulted my kids and made a ruckus at my wife’s work about her. When I made a complaint she threatened my wife’s work that she would sue and get their license pulled( my wife works at a pharmacy). My question is can I get a restraining order on this women? I might add that we all own our houses here except her, she’s a renter and her landlord works for a law firm in kamloops.

The lawyer keeps changing what he says after adding new stuff is how it seems to me going by what my sister has said …… I don’t know about law stuff but when my sister 1st started msging me with this stuff something didn’t seem right to me & I questioned this from the start ….. ]]> My dad helped me purchase a house when I got married. My dad and I are the only ones on the loan and deed.
I plan on divorcing my husband soon. We still owe most of the home but he wants to sell it and split the profits (value has doubled). I don’t agree to this because I want to remain living here as it’s where our daughter feels safe and also because he’s making 100k a year with his company that my parents and I supported him starting and growing and I make less than 50k. I’m not asking him for anything (I know he’ll provide for his daughter) but the house is something I don’t want to give up, especially since I’ll have to involve my dad. We are from Illinois

]]> My 13 year old sons father passed away almost 2 years ago. His dad has a daughter who is now 19 but was 17 when he passed. The house is in his name which goes to his daughter. Well the grandmother tried to sell it. The person she tried to sell it to threw all of their belongings out gutted the house and paid grandmother 12000 before he even got the deed. Well now his lawyer told him that is not the grandmothers house to sell and that he has to give the money to the daughter. Well the daughter doesnt want sell. But now is looking at 20000 worth of work to fix so what is her options here. She doe not have to sell right.

]]> I feel so helpless/hurt/scared/defeated. My apartment manager just gave us a warning letter stating that if they receive just one more complaint on my family that we will be evicted. Along with this warning letter were 5 other warning letters each with dates written on them going as far back at October 2021 and it is the very first time I am seeing any of these warning letters. We were never given copies of these letters, our signatures are not on these letters nor were we even at least advised that they were writing us up and adding it to our file. One of our neighbors has been making false police reports on us for months now and none of those reports state that when officers arrived they heard or saw anything nor was anyone taken to jail. The only thing that my family and I have done is bring to the attention of these tenants of things that they were doing that were annoying to us or that we felt offended by and because of those few confrontations they decided to start making false accusations and now me and my family are facing eviction because of it. They have absolutely no proof of anything they are saying about us and I feel the apartment manager is being biased because we are new tenants and the people making false statements have been here for years. The letter stated if they receive just one more complaint from any tenant we face eviction and it’s all simply based on what another tenant is saying. We’ve never been late on our rent we’re always early as a matter of fact, we have never been previously evicted from anywhere else. And there are only two particular tenants making these complaints who happen to be the very same tenants We’ve gone to directly about an issue, no other surrounding tenants have made complaints.
