]]> My mother-in-law signed a car over to me recently using power of attorney on behalf of her father. Her father has declined in health pretty bad and is in a nursing home. A while back the nursing home and my mother-in-law had a misunderstanding on payments so she owes a lot on payments (to the point where they almost evicted him). They ended up working on a payment plan but like I said, big debt. My husband and I have been stuck taking care of her and her children for a couple years now and I want to take my car and leave and focus on our marriage. When my mother-in-law found out she told me she was going to report the car to the collectors (sorry if not proper terminology) because they can claim anything that belonged to him from the past 3 years regardless of who owns it now.
**Is this true? Do I have to worry about the vehicle getting repoed and sold? The vehicle is completely paid off and the title is in my name.**
I live in the state of Texas in the United States.
